Some of my fav Christian music

(c) Hannah Presley Photography

Hey everyone! I was just recently asked by a new friend and Navy Ensign about my favorite Christian music. I thought this was a fun question and I would share my answer with everyone! For those ladies about to deploy, it is a good idea to load up on some good Christian music before you leave!

Psalms II
Shane and Shane
2015

I love this entire album but my favorites are definitely “Psalm 46 (Lord of Hosts)” and “Psalm 23 (Surely Goodness, Surely Mercy).”

I absolutely LOVE Christian music that is essentially Scripture put to music. It greatly helps me when memorizing Scripture. (Also on a side note, if you struggle to memorize Scripture like I do, I HIGHLY recommend the “Fighter Verses” app for your phone. Each week, there is a different memory verse and you can listen to a song version of the verse that is very enjoyable and catchy – thanks Tracy for sharing this app with me! It has been so incredibly helpful!)

One of my favorite Psalms is Psalm 43. Sandra McCracken does a beautiful musical rendition of this song called “Send Out Your Light.” Be sure to check it out!

If I absolutely had to pick ONE favorite Christian band, I would probably say Tenth Avenue North. Here are two FANTASTIC albums by them:

The Struggle
Tenth Avenue North
2012

Everything about this album is epic. My husband and I think they were truly empowered by the Holy Spirit when writing this album. The lyrics to each song are so poignant. And even the album cover is super epic! My favorite tracks in this album are “Worn,” “The Struggle,” and “Lamb of God.”

No Shame
Tenth Avenue North
2019

Another inspired album that hits close to home for me personally, as I have struggled greatly with shame and regret in the past. My favorites on this album are “Greater Than All My Regrets” and “The Future.” A couple of lyrics from “The Future:”

“The future’s in the letting go
Eyes open and ready for what I don’t know
This moment is a place I’ve never been before”

I love that! – “This moment is a place I’ve never been before.” I have never really thought about it that way.

A couple other stand-out songs for me include:

“Is He Worthy?”
Andrew Peterson

This song is such a comfort to me during really tough times. It encourages me to look to Scripture and specifically to the Cross which reminds me of how much God loves me. Even during dark times, when my “why” questions go unanswered, I strive to trust God because of what He has done, through Jesus, on my behalf. Because of how much God loves us, He sent His only son, Jesus, to earth in order to live and die as a perfect man, atoning for our sin through his broken body on the cross, and conquering sin and death through his resurrection! God is worthy to be praised!

“So Will I (100 Billion X)”
Hillsong Worship

If you have not heard this song yet, you just have to listen to it. The lyrics are so powerful and illustrative of the beauty of God’s creation and of His omniscience and goodness. Here are some of the lyrics:

“And as You speak
A hundred billion failures disappear
Where You lost Your life so I could find it here
If You left the grave behind You so will I
I can see Your heart in everything You’ve done
Every part designed in a work of art called love
If You gladly chose surrender so will I
I can see Your heart
Eight billion different ways
Every precious one
A child You died to save
If You gave Your life to love them so will I”

I hope this music inspires you to trust our great God more and to desire to grow in your relationship with Christ! May the Holy Spirit change your heart as you listen to these songs.
